Did Jesus Need to Study the Bible?

We need to look to Jesus in order to know how to exercise faith.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

For us to be Christians we need to live by the faith of Jesus.  That requires us looking at him in order to see how it is that he went through his life.  Jesus made a statement as his mission. His whole purpose of living was this.

John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.  Read the rest of this entry

The Exhaustless Word of God

You can’t exhaust the word of God. There’s a temptation for us to not to meditate on things long enough, because we think that the Bible is exhaustible. Do you find fresh thoughts on texts?

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Read the rest of this entry

Make No Provision for the Flesh

The only way we can be like Jesus is if we behold him.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.

By looking and letting our minds eye absorb Jesus Christ, we would be changed from glory to glory. We can’t look at Jesus unless we walk with Him. Does Jesus stand still? The rich young ruler had an opportunity presented before him. Read the rest of this entry

How Does the Fourth Angel Lighten the World?

Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

This is the fourth angel the angel to lighten the world. How does this angel light the world? By the loud cry of the three angels’ messages. Adventists have been waiting for the loud cry to happen. We want to consider this lightening of the earth with its glory. Moses asked God to show him His glory. He expressed character traits to Moses. When the earth is lightened with His glory, it’s not the dazzling brightness like that of Hollywood, it’s the glory which is character. The character of God’s people is to lighten up the world. Young Fishermen

Prophecy says that a church is a woman.

Songs of Solomon 6:8 There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number. 9 My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her. 10 Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?

Amidst all the different women or churches there is one that belongs to Christ. She has the sun and the moon and she is as terrible as an army with banners. Here is another description of the same woman.

Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. A Church, Not a Social Club

mp3 Audio

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Refuge for the Sinner Unawares

By John Thiel

What is the difference between unwitting or deliberate sinfulness relative to our salvation? We are focusing on an element of the city of refuge. The church is the city of refuge for God’s people and we as members in the church are to understand that souls that come into the church find a refuge there indeed, a refuge from condemnation.

Numbers 35:15 These six cities shall be a refuge, [both] for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither. Read the rest of this entry

When God Doesn’t Answer Prayer

By John Thiel

Have you ever prayed for something earnestly and it doesn’t happen? How do you feel? Perhaps you have prayed for someone who is sick and you prayed in the name of Jesus and you really pleaded but instead of getting better they get worse and then they died. How did you feel? Apostle Paul had an experience like this. He had a thorn in his flesh that God did not take away.

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Read the rest of this entry

Waiting and Watching

By John Thiel

Matthew 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite [his] fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;  50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and in an hour that he is not aware of,  51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint [him] his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Am I going to be alive when Jesus comes?

The day is at hand. For the lessons to be learned, the work to be done, the transformation of character to be effected, the time remaining is but too brief a span. {Ed 184.2}

God’s Workshop

By John Thiel

We have a wonderful comfort that although we are rough stones of the quarry, we have been taken inside God’s workshop. The beauty that is deep inside of every single one us is something worthy of Jesus to use for his glory. The rough stones look rough on the outside but inside there is a gem. That particular reality is expressed that there is something worthy put there that God wants to polish and purify. Read the rest of this entry

Don’t Underestimate Your Potential

By John Thiel

In the society that we have been molded by we have developed a way of thinking in which we rely upon those who are in leadership to tell us what situations of life that we have to submit to. We wait for them to guide and tell us. The rulers of the world of society around us are the ones that dictate the condition that we are to be submissive to. The general populace do not exercise their mind in running the affairs of government. This mentality is translated into the church that ministers, presidents of conferences and Bible workers are employed as the workers that are to tell us what the truth is and tell us how we should function. To Yield or Not to Yield

By John Thiel, Audio: To Yield or Not to Yield

We are aware of the amazing effect that transgression had on the Lord himself our Father in heaven. The deep grief that has affected him because of transgression. Much more grief than any of us will ever have to suffer which was accumulated upon the very soul of our Lord and Saviour Jesus the son of God. As we reflect upon that, doesn’t that pull our heart string? Does that not do something to us that calls upon us to yield? However to yield under such kind psychological pressure that is affected upon our minds, has an effect on my surface thinking where really we are to have freedom of choice but as we see the mental activity that the word of God creates in our mind, there comes a point where we think we haven’t really got freedom have we. It’s either you obey and yield to God or you’re damned. That is the effect sometimes that comes upon us.

Do we really have freedom of choice? Every single one of us feels the tug of war that take place inside of us when God’s word comes before us and we are convinced it is right but then we have certain inhibitions of within ourselves that prevent us from moving ahead to respond to what has been illuminated. This happens differently in each person’s individual life because what is my test is not your test. When it comes to the test whether I’m going to yield everything, even my pet feelings, I have to yield them up. It becomes a tug of war within us. Read the rest of this entry

We Have an Advocate

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Jesus through the cross became the propitiation for the sins of the world. With Jesus comes all the extra benefits. Read the rest of this entry

The Golden Chain of Love

By John Thiel

We have contemplated the heaven we need to have to be able to enter the heaven that Jesus has gone to prepare a place in for us. In our great desire as the prophet John says, even so come Lord Jesus take us to be with you. We have learnt the way which we can be with him is that we would have a heaven here below. The Relationship that Lasts Forever

By John Thiel

God wants us to bask.  To bask in what?  In the fact that no matter how frail and weak we may be, if we come to him in contrition and in true dependence upon him, he is a father that smiles upon us.  He is a father that wants our salvation and he has given us Jesus to bask in the sunshine of his mercy.  We are to drench ourselves with that healing comfort that comes from him. We are confronted with making these choices that we would be able to live a life in the New Year better than the last year.  A life of eternal value.  We need to make choices all the time.  The choice we make needs to be appreciated. The Spirit of Contrition

By John Thiel

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

This is the spirit that is the spirit of the throne of God. For it says he dwells in a high and holy place with whom? A humble spirit. It will occur to you that the one who sits on that throne is a selfless humble contrite being. Only those who are of a contrite spirit can sit together with him on that throne. I have observed that as we study the lessons, people have said they feel so far short of the mark. I’m afraid when people say that because they’re saying, what’s the use of even trying, I’m never going to make it. That frightens me that there will be people who lose their way as they are affected by this mentality. We need to spend more time on the sense that comes over us when we come face to face with Gods pure word, his pure character, his commandments and the high attainment we should gain and yet never lose the sense of our abject helplessness and yet retain a hope. This is a very careful balancing act for a sinner. Many Christians fall off the rails one way or another in their teaching or in their sense of being Christians. Read the rest of this entry
